Greece hopes for positive developments at Eurogroup meeting

Eurozone Finance ministers will meet today at 15:00 CET to discuss on the progress of the negotiations between Greece and the institutions. Although several EU officials have ruled out the prospect of an agreement today, the Greek govt is hoping for a positive statement that will signal the two sides are on track to wrap up an agreement in the coming weeks.

The key point, which was also confirmed at the government council meeting on Sunday, is the “need to reach a mutually beneficial agreement in compliance with the recent popular mandate.”

The Greek side will be represented by both Mr. Varoufakis and Mr. Houliarakis (president of the Economic Advisor Council). According to press reports, Mr. Varoufakis will also hold talks with his German counterpart ahead of today’s Eurogroup meeting.

According to sources, Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and his German counterpart Wolfgang Schaeuble will have a private meeting before the Eurogroup. However, the meeting has not been confirmed by the Greek side.
