Elpedison vertically integrates eyeing retail electricity market

Energy company Elpedison has revised its corporate structure into a vertically integrated operation in a move that highlights the emphasis placed by shareholders on the local retail electricity market and the prospects offered as a result of the country’s commitment to significantly reduce main power utility PPC’s dominant market share, a bailout condition.

Following the structural revisions, electricity production and supply services are part of one vertically integrated corporation.

Elpedison Energy SA, a unit primarily active in electricity supply to businesses and households, merged with Elpedison Electrical Energy Production SA, and has been renamed Elpedison SA, the company has announced.

Through the revision, the corporation is repositioning itself in the market with the aim of creating a greater whole than the sum of its units by achieving synergy and economies of scale to the benefit of consumers.
