Tsipras nominates Prokopis Pavlopoulos for presidential candidate

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Tuesday nominated Prokopis Pavlopoulos for presidential candidate. 

Mr Pavlopoulos is a Law professor and has served in various political positions with New Democracy such as minister of Internal Affairs and Public Administration (March 2004 until October 2009). 

The process for the election of the new president by the Parliament starts today as follows: 180 votes are required in the 1st round; 151 votes are required in the 2nd round; and finally, a relative majority (no less than 120 votes) is required at the 3rd round. The President of the Republic may serve up to two 4-year terms.
