Seimanidis re-elected EREF chief for second term

The European Renewable Energies Federation (EREF), a key voice in Brussels for independent power producers, has unanimously re-elected Savvas Seimanidis as its president for a second term.

Seimanidis was first elected as EREF’s head official in 2014. In the lead-up to gaining the federation’s top post, he served as its deputy from 2012 and as a board member from 2010, representing ESIAPE, the Greek Association of Renewable Energy Source Electricity Producers.

Commenting after his re-election, Seimanidis said the EREF agrees with Maros Sefcovic, the European Commission vice president responsible for Energy Union, on his belief that 2016 will turn out to be constructive for energy union.

“This means we will establish the required groundwork offering a stable, secure and competitive future for renewable energy sources and implement the ambitious objectives set at COP21, the Paris Climate Conference,” Seimanidis remarked.

Speaking at a conference in London, co-organized by EREF and the UK’s Renewable Energy Association (REA), Seimanidis stressed that EREF will continue working with the European Commission on the effort to reform the European electricity market and networks so that they may support RES sector growth.

Seimanidis also told the London conference that EREF will collaborate with other RES federations with the aim of delivering strong proposals to the European Commission and European Parliament for EU directive revisions that may help achieve long-term objectives for lower CO2 emissions and reduced reliance on coal for energy production.
