RAE approves 12% hike for PPC ‘last resort’ consumer category

RAE, the Regulatory Authority for Energy, has approved a 12 percent hike for low-voltage consumers belonging to a special PPC category comprised of consumers who were transferred to the main power utility after being left without an electricity supplier following the closures of two retailers, Energa and Hellas Power, a few years ago.

Consumers affected by the debacle of these two electricity retailers had been automatically inducted into a “last resort electricity rates” category, whose tariffs are slightly higher than those of other PPC consumer categories, before eventually being informed they were free to choose any of the retail market’s existing suppliers. Some never bothered and still belong to this special category.
