PPC to express formal interest in broadband development project

The administration at power utility PPC, in what is seen as a surprise move, has decided to submit an application expressing formal interest in an international tender concerning the development of ultra-fast broadband infrastructure for undeveloped parts of Greece through the establishment of a public and private sector collaboration.

The project concerns the development of ultra-fast broadband infrastructure in regions around Greece not covered by private-sector telecommunication service providers.

According to the tender’s terms, the winning bidder will take on the broadband network infrastructure’s design and construction, installation of all necessary equipment, provision of all necessary services, quality-control supervision and provision of maintenance and technical support once the project has been launched.

The investment’s total cost, for both the public and private sectors, is estimated at 700.9 million euros, not including VAT.
