Popular Unity leader Lafazanis receives third mandate

Popular Unity parliamentary group Panagiotis Lafazanis received on Monday the third and last mandate to form a government from President of Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos. Pavlopoulos said that the mandate is effective for three days and ends on Thursday 27 August. On his part, Lafazanis stated that “we will make use of the popular mandate to show that a consistent anti-memorandum government is needed in the country.” Leaving the presidential mansion, Lafazanis sternly attacked the government saying that the recourse to the ballots with express procedures is an indication of an extreme anti-democratic attitude and constitutes an anti-democratic deviation. “We told the President of Republic not to contribute in express ballots. The President is not the government’s representative. He gives account and is responsible before the Greek people.”
