“New Deal” unconstitutional, studies claim

Two studies carried out by four distinguished law professors on the so-called “New Deal” – a new set of measures aimed at offering a long-term solution for the deficit problem at LAGIE, the Electricity Market Operator – both conclude that legislative provisions behind the deal are unconstitutional and incompatible with EU law.

The studies were conducted by four professors who were commissioned by Renewable Energy Source investors representing a considerable proportion of installed power capacity, both for connected and unconnected systems.

The professors, Xenophon Kontiadis, Philippos Spyropoulos, Giorgos Sotirelis, Antonios Metaxas, are believed to have completed their studies and are expected to forward them to their investor clients next week, sources told EnergyPress.

According to these sources, the studies will be used in prospective legal action to be taken by Renewable Energy Source investors, who, reportedly, will challenge the “New Deal” at both national and European levels.
