Government secures vote of confidence with 162 “yea” votes

The Greek government received a vote of confidence from Parliament in the early hours of Wednesday morning, in a roll-call vote held after a three-day debate unveiling its policy statements. The 162 votes in favour came exclusively from the two parties supporting the ruling coalition, with 149 from SYRIZA΄s bloc and 13 from the Independent Greeks (ANEL).

According to AMNA total of 299 MPs took part in the vote, which started just before 1:00 on Wednesday after a speech delivered by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

All 137 MPs in the opposition (New Democracy, Golden Dawn, Potami, Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and PASOK) voted against the government΄s policy statements, with the exception of GD lead Nikos Michaloliakos who was absent.
