EU Says Greek PM Due in Brussels

Greece΄s new Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is due in Brussels next week to meet with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, an EU spokesman said on Friday.

No date has yet been set for the visit, but the trip was planned when Mr. Juncker spoke with Mr. Tsipras on Monday evening, Margaritis Schinas, chief spokesman for the European Commission said.

Mr. Tsipras΄ government is about to embark on high-stakes negotiations with its European partners on the country΄s debt burden and economic program. The Syriza-led government has also this week set out its reluctance to see any increase in sanctions pressure on Russia.

European Parliament President Martin Schulz and Jeroen Dijsselbloem, president of the Eurogroup, were in Athens on Thursday.
