Country’s lignite and oil dependence must end by 2030, deputy says

Greece must strive to end its dependence on lignite-fired electricity as well as oil and energy imports by 2030, Alternate Minister of Environment and Energy Yiannis Tsironis has told an energy-sector conference.

The official noted this could be achieved between 2020 and 2030, adding that any time sooner is not feasible.

Commenting on the county’s energy imports, Tsironis noted Greece is equipped with an installed capacity infrastructure that amounts to double that of the country’s needs.

As for the country’s oil dependence, the deputy said Greece spends over 1,490 barrels, daily, for every GDP percentage point, compared to 900 in Norway.
