PPC pursuit of free CO2 emission rights in 2017 vital for utility’s finances

A campaign being pursued by main power utility PPC with the objective of gaining free CO2 emission rights in 2017 is pivotal for its finances. With the exception of its thermal energy production emissions, the utility is not entitled to free CO2 emission rights, based on the current regulations.

PPC’s effort to gain free CO2 emission rights next year comes as a further addition to the list of financial battles being fought by PPC.

The utility’s leadership focused on the issue during a recent board meeting. PPC has set a 300 million-euro upper limit for CO2 emission rights costs in 2017.

Anticipating that CO2 emission rights costs could increase, which would impact the utility’s operational costs, PPC is currently preparing a strategy to combat such a development.
