New chief appointed at HEDNO

HEDNO, the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator, locally known as DEDDIE, has appointed a new president and managing director, Konstantinos Zontanos, previously a board member at HEDNO parent company PPC, the Public Power Corporation, it was announced today.

The energy official replaces Georgios Kollias at HEDNO’s top post. HEDNO, controlled entirely by PPC, said further revisions to its board were in the making and would soon be announced.

A mechanical engineer by trade, Zontanos studied at the Polytechnic of Central London, completing a degree in telecommunications that specialized in digital transmission systems. In 2002, he gained an MBA at American City University. In 1980, he was employed at OTE, the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization, in the field of supervision and construction of network projects. In 1987, he assumed responsibilities at the telecom organization’s urban network studies division. Between 1999 and 2003, Zontanos worked in the firm’s multiplex systems design department, a post that helped shape the television production package for the Athens Olympics in 2004. Between 2007 and April, 2011, Zontanos, was the managing director at Hellascom SA, a construction subsidiary of the OTE corporate group.
