Local authorities preparing list of PPC unit sale candidates

Local authorities have begun making plans to compile a list of main power utility PPC units that could be sold now that it has become apparent that the bailout’s second review will not conclude if the Greek government does not bow to pressure by the lenders for the sale of utility units.

Selections of PPC units to be sold will be made from a list of 13 lignite-fired power stations and 16 hydropower stations.

Factors to be taken into account when selecting PPC unit sale list entries include the make-up of a slice of PPC, representing 17 percent, to be included on the country’s privatizations list; the results of a market test on PPC units, being demanded by the lenders for September; the age of units, planned PPC unit withdrawals and revamp needs of units; as well as the degree of access of PPC’s coal mines and lignite-fired power stations offered to independent firms.
